How to add a live visitor counter to a Wix site (free, no app store needed)

Wix's app store sells visitor counters for $4-15/month. Here's the free alternative that installs in 90 seconds via the Custom Code feature on any Wix plan that supports it.

Two ways to install on Wix (pick based on your plan)

Wix's plan structure determines which method you can use. The Custom Code feature requires a Business plan or higher (Combo, Unlimited, VIP, and Business). Free Wix plans cannot inject scripts — you'll need to upgrade to use this method.

Method 1 — Custom Code (recommended, sitewide)

If you're on a Business or higher plan:

  1. Open the FeedPulse generator and paste your Wix site URL.
  2. Pick Live Traffic Feed. Customize colors to match your Wix template.
  3. Copy the snippet.
  4. In Wix Dashboard → Settings → Custom Code.
  5. Click + Add Custom Code.
  6. Paste the FeedPulse snippet into the code field.
  7. Add code to: Body - End (this loads after the page content, no LCP impact).
  8. Apply to: All pages.
  9. Name the code "FeedPulse Live Visitor Widget" for your own reference.
  10. Click Apply.

Publish your site. The widget will appear at the bottom of every page within seconds.

Method 2 — HTML iFrame component (works on every Wix plan, including free)

If you're on the free or Combo plan:

  1. In Wix Editor, click Add (+) → Embed Code → Embed HTML.
  2. An "HTML iFrame" element will appear on your page. Click it → Enter Code.
  3. Paste your FeedPulse snippet.
  4. Resize the iFrame to roughly 340px × 400px (slightly larger than the widget itself to avoid scrollbars).
  5. Drag to place wherever you like (sidebar, footer, between sections).
  6. Publish.

Limitation: the iFrame approach only places the widget where you drop it — it doesn't go sitewide. You'd need to add it to every page individually.

Wix-specific gotchas

1. Custom Code only fires on the published site

Wix's Editor preview does not load Custom Code by design. To see the widget render, you must publish (a button in the top-right of the Editor) and visit the live URL.

2. The "Body - End" placement is best for performance

Wix offers four placements for Custom Code: Head, Body - Start, Body - End, Wix Bookings/Stores hooks. Body - End is the only one that doesn't block your page's rendering. The widget loads asynchronously so it never hurts your LCP.

3. Wix's editor toolbar can cover the widget on mobile

If you place the widget bottom-right and your visitors view on mobile, the Wix editor's mobile preview chrome may overlay it. Test on a real mobile device after publishing.

4. Wix Stores cart pages

The widget will appear on Wix Stores cart and checkout pages by default if you've enabled it sitewide. You may want to exclude those — use the "Apply to: Choose specific pages" option in Custom Code to limit to homepage + product pages only.

What you get on a Wix site

  • Free forever, unlimited Wix sites, unlimited visits
  • Modern UI that doesn't look like the 2008 Wix Bookings widget
  • GDPR-safe anonymous tracking — works with Wix's cookie banner without additional config
  • Live country flags that visually complement most Wix templates
