Google's Core Web Vitals report uses real-user measurements (RUM) from the Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX) — actual visits from actual Chrome users worldwide, not lab tests. Yes — explicitly. Page Experience became a confirmed Google ranking signal in 2021. While content quality still outweighs speed for most queries, a slow site (>4s LCP on mobile) gets actively demoted, especially on competitive commercial keywords. Speed is also a strong indirect signal: slow sites bounce, and high bounce rates further damage ranking.
