Add a free click heatmap to Blogger

One snippet, pasted into Theme → Edit HTML, before
— because it has to load on every page before your clicks happen, and it renders nothing visible. Blogger still hosts millions of blogs on blogspot and custom domains, and almost none of those sites want another gadget just to render a small piece of live data. Nothing to install. Blogger's own HTML/JavaScript gadget takes raw markup, which is all this needs — and unlike a theme edit, a gadget survives changing your theme.

Hotjar charges $99-$389/mo. Crazy Egg charges $99-$249/mo. The two FREE click heatmap tools that used to exist (Mouseflow Lite, Lucky Orange Free) both quietly killed their free tiers in 2023. We rebuilt the click heatmap in 2026 — free forever, no signup, no email, no recording quotas. Paste one HTML snippet, return to FeedPulse in 24 hours, see exactly where every visitor clicked on every page of your site. Blazing / hot / warm / smoky temperature bins, per-page breakdown, dead-zone detection — all the things you used to pay $99/mo for. Want to see exactly what you get? → Try the live demo on /sample-heatmap (real visualisation, sample data, zero install).

How to install it on Blogger

 1. 1In the Blogger dashboard open Theme, click the arrow beside Customise, and choose Edit HTML.
 2. 2Press Ctrl/Cmd+F inside the editor and find
.
 3. 3Paste the snippet on the line directly above it, then click Save.
 4. 4Back up first: the editor has no undo once you've saved.
Editing the theme XML instead? Theme edits are wiped the moment you switch or restore a theme. If you'd rather not re-do it later, use Layout → Add a Gadget → HTML/JavaScript instead — gadgets are stored separately from the theme.

Three things that trip people up on Blogger

The theme editor is XML, so raw code can break the save

Blogger themes are parsed as XML, so characters like &, <, > and quotes inside a script can trigger errors such as "The reference to entity must end with the ';' delimiter" and refuse to save. Our snippet is a plain async script tag with no bare ampersands, so it pastes cleanly — but if you ever hit that error, wrap the code in // ... // or encode the five reserved characters. This is the main reason to prefer a gadget over a theme edit.

Compose view will eat your snippet

The post editor has two modes. Compose escapes anything that looks like markup, so the snippet renders as visible text instead of a widget. Switch to HTML view before pasting, and avoid flipping back to Compose afterwards — Blogger sometimes rewrites the markup when it converts between the two.

Theme edits vanish, gadgets don't

Changing theme, restoring a backup or applying one of Blogger's own themes replaces the whole template, taking any code you pasted into it with it. Gadgets live in your layout settings instead, so they survive. Unless you specifically need the
position, use a gadget.

What you get, and what it costs

 • Free forever — there is no paid tier, no trial and no card
 • No signup for the badge-style widgets; the live ones create a site ID inline from your URL
 • Async script — it never blocks your page from rendering
 • Works on every Blogger theme, on blogspot.com and custom domains, in gadgets and in the post editor's HTML view
 • Bots filtered server-side on every visitor-counting widget

Blogger questions

Do I need a gadget to add a click heatmap to Blogger?

Nothing to install. Blogger's own HTML/JavaScript gadget takes raw markup, which is all this needs — and unlike a theme edit, a gadget survives changing your theme. Installing a gadget for this would mean an extra dependency, an update cycle and a security surface to render one snippet. Paste it into Theme → Edit HTML, before
and you're done.

Where exactly does the snippet go on Blogger?

Theme → Edit HTML, before
— because it has to load on every page before your clicks happen, and it renders nothing visible. In the Blogger dashboard open Theme, click the arrow beside Customise, and choose Edit HTML. Press Ctrl/Cmd+F inside the editor and find
. Paste the snippet on the line directly above it, then click Save. Back up first: the editor has no undo once you've saved.

Will it slow my Blogger site down?

No. The script tag is async, so it never blocks your page from rendering, and the widget draws itself after your content is already on screen. Blogger is served by Google's own infrastructure and the snippet is one async tag, so it loads after your post is already on screen. There's no cache to purge — saving a gadget publishes it immediately.

Does it work with page builders like Layout editor?

Layout editor: Add a Gadget → HTML/JavaScript. Theme editor: Edit HTML, paste above
or
. Post editor: switch to HTML view, then paste. Blogger mobile app: not supported — use the desktop dashboard. Any builder with a raw-HTML or code block will render it, because there's nothing framework-specific in the snippet.
