Add a free comments widget to Wix

One snippet, pasted into an HTML embed block inside the blog post — because it belongs directly under the article body, which means the blog-post template rather than a global widget area. Wix powers millions of live sites, and almost none of those sites want another app just to render a small piece of live data. No app from the Wix App Market. Wix renders raw HTML and script tags inside an embed element, so there is nothing to install and nothing to pay for.

Disqus is bloated (1 MB+), tracking-heavy, and ad-supported. We rebuilt the entire comments stack in 5 KB. No signup, no email required, optional moderation, beautiful themes.

How to install it on Wix

  1. 1Open the post in Wix Blog and place the cursor where the widget should sit.
  2. 2Click the + in the content area and choose HTML (under Embed).
  3. 3Paste the snippet and confirm — the block renders inline in the post.
  4. 4Set the block height so nothing is clipped, then Publish the post.
On Wix Studio, or no connected domain yet? Want it under every article instead of one? Put the snippet in Settings → Custom Code → Body – end and target the blog pages only, or park an embed in the global footer area.

Three things that trip people up on Wix

Custom Code is gated behind a connected domain

Wix only unlocks Settings → Custom Code on a published site with a connected domain, which in practice means a Premium plan. On a free wixsite.com address the section is there but inert. The embed element has no such requirement, so free sites are not locked out — they just can't use the head position. One more trap: if you later change or reassign the domain, Wix deletes your custom code snippets, so keep the snippet saved somewhere.

The iframe can't resize itself — you set the height

Every Wix embed runs in a sandboxed iframe that cannot talk to the parent page, so auto-resize scripts do nothing. If the widget looks cut off, the widget is fine and the element is too short: drag the blue handles or type a pixel height in the layout panel. Do it again in the mobile editor, because Wix stores mobile sizing separately. Set the height to the tallest the widget will ever get to avoid layout shift.

Nothing exists until you hit Publish

The editor and even Preview mode do not run custom code, and embeds frequently render blank in Preview. Publish, then open the live URL in a normal tab. A widget that 'doesn't work' on Wix is almost always an unpublished change or a Preview-mode check. Also make sure your snippet is HTTPS-only — Wix blocks mixed content outright.

What you get, and what it costs

  • Free forever — there is no paid tier, no trial and no card
  • No signup for the badge-style widgets; the live ones create a site ID inline from your URL
  • Async script — it never blocks your page from rendering
  • Works in the Wix Editor, Wix Studio and Editor X, on Wix Blog posts, and on free wixsite.com sites via the embed element
  • Bots filtered server-side on every visitor-counting widget

Wix questions

Do I need an app to add a comments widget to Wix?

No app from the Wix App Market. Wix renders raw HTML and script tags inside an embed element, so there is nothing to install and nothing to pay for. Installing an app for this would mean an extra dependency, an update cycle and a security surface to render one snippet. Paste it into an HTML embed block inside the blog post and you're done.

Where exactly does the snippet go on Wix?

An HTML embed block inside the blog post — because it belongs directly under the article body, which means the blog-post template rather than a global widget area. Open the post in Wix Blog and place the cursor where the widget should sit. Click the + in the content area and choose HTML (under Embed). Paste the snippet and confirm — the block renders inline in the post. Set the block height so nothing is clipped, then Publish the post.

Will it slow my Wix site down?

No. The script tag is async, so it never blocks your page from rendering, and the widget draws itself after your content is already on screen. Wix drops the embed into its own sandboxed iframe, so it physically cannot block your page from rendering — the trade-off is that you set the height yourself, because a sandboxed iframe can't tell the parent page how tall it needs to be. There is no cache to purge; the change goes live when you hit Publish.

Does it work with page builders like Wix Editor?

Wix Editor: Add (+) → Embed & Social → Embed a Widget. Wix Studio: Add → Embed → Custom Embeds, same dialog. Editor X: use the HTML iFrame element. Wix Blog: add an HTML block inside the post. Any builder with a raw-HTML or code block will render it, because there's nothing framework-specific in the snippet.
